303 Stainless Plate

303 is an austenitic free-machining steel with excellent machinability. It can tolerate mildly corrosive environments; however, its sulfur content diminishes corrosion resistance compared to other 300 series grades. 303 should not be used for welding applications and welds must be annealed afterward for best results.

304 Stainless Steel Sheet

ASTM fastener standards cover this alloy, including F593 for bolts and screws, and F738 for studs (See Figure 4 for a diagram which ranks headable stainless grades according to corrosion resistance and work hardening characteristics).

Recent studies on metastable AISI 321 austenitic stainless steel have demonstrated that sensitizing carbides in fine-grained (FG) specimens suppresses dynamic recrystallization and lowers corrosion resistance compared with coarse-grained (CG) structures.
